PETA Donations & Taxpayer Funds Used to Kill Kittens

I just received documents obtained through the Public Records Act demonstrating how PETA delivers healthy cats and kittens to local pounds in order to kill them. These documents show that PETA uses donations given under the mistaken belief that the organization will use those donations to save animals to round up healthy cats and kittens and have them poisoned instead. Among the dead are 9-week old kittens, 10-week old kittens, 4-month old kittens, and young, healthy cats.

In 2017, PETA sought out and impounded 1,487 of which it put 1,213 to death with an overdose of barbiturates. The majority of the others were taken to local kill shelters, many of which have an agreement to kill the cats PETA brings them. Or, they displace other animals who are killed, effectively putting PETA’s death rate for cats at 99%, the functional equivalent of a slaughterhouse.

For example, of the 21 cats and kittens PETA took to the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS) in Newport News, VA, and which PETA logged as “live releases,” intake documents reveal that all but two were killed. In fact, PRAS has an ongoing “agreement” with PETA: PETA brings them healthy community cats and kittens and the pound kills them.

9-week old kittens. Dead.

10-week old kittens. Dead.

Young, healthy cats. Dead.

These cats and kittens had their whole lives ahead of them; lives that were cruelly stolen by PETA. These are cats and kittens that PETA is claiming as “live releases.” They are community cats who are entitled to a legally mandated five day holding period but some are killed within minutes. They are cats who are in good health or have minor colds. Instead, PETA turned them in to PRAS and the PRAS staff plunged a needle full of barbiturates into them, exactly what PETA knew and wanted to happen to them.

Why? Operating on the belief that life is suffering and animals want to die, the PETA employees who work in PETA’s Community Animal Project have, according to former employees, one overriding goal: to acquire as many animals as possible in order to put them immediately to death, and they are told to lie and even steal people’s companion animals in order to do so.
